About

Dr. Simonne Jameson Ph.D. (M.A.)MAPPA USA has led (and at 79 continues to lead) a very extraordinary life. Born in France in 1928, she survived the holocaust while still a child. Protected from the Nazi’s, she suffered horrific abuse by her ‘protectors’ - a series of high-ranking French policeman.

Finding the strength to transcend her traumatic past, Simonne has gone on to live a vibrant and successful life; which has included raising five children (one of whom is an adopted Australian), extensive philanthropic interests, a career in psychology, working as a leading art curator in Italy, and moving to Australia in 1975 to accept a position at Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia.

Whilst she has many passions, Simonne has dedicated her life to helping children of abuse. As a child psychologist and child abuse survivor, she offers unique insights. Controversially, her approach centres on forgiving, accepting and moving forward, rather than focusing on the past.

Her support of child abuse victims extends beyond counseling to philanthropy. After a successful career as a respected art curator and critic in Italy in the 1950s, she established Art Sans Frontieres which promotes exhibitions of works by artists from around the world, including Salvador Dali and Rembrandt. A percentage of profits go to Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Children’s Rights Foundation – of which she is the Founding Director. The Children’s Rights Foundation provides therapeutic services to disadvantaged families free of charge, as well as providing the funds to run their Sri Lankan orphanage.

Simonne speaks five languages and in 1967 was awarded the Gold Medal of France for Services to Humanity. She was also a nominee for the 2005 Human Rights Medal. Simonne has also been nominated for various local awards, including the 2006 Australian of the Year award.
